Starting at the very beginning:
There are two fundamental cell types:
Prokaryotes (bacteria, archaea) — No nucleus; DNA floats freely in the cell
Eukaryotes (plants, animals, fungi) — DNA housed in a nucleus; more complex
Key organelles in eukaryotic cells include the nucleus (genetic control center), mitochondria (energy production), ribosomes (protein synthesis), and in plant cells, chloroplasts (photosynthesis).
